About Dr. Evans Bailey, MD, PhD
A NATIVE OF BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, Dr. Bailey attended Wheaton College for his undergraduate studies. He completed his MD degree and a PhD in cell biology and skin cancer genetics at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Bailey completed his residency and surgical dermatology fellowship at the University of Michigan.
As a fellowship trained skin cancer and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Bailey has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of skin cancer. He is board certified in Dermatology and has been elected a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He also completed an advanced fellowship in cosmetic and laser surgery. He lectures nationally and internationally on skin cancer surgery and reconstruction. For the past 5 years, Dr. Bailey has served as co-director of a nationally accredited surgical and laser fellowship, training board certified physicians in laser surgery, skin cancer surgery and advanced reconstruction. He is a surgeon at the Callahan Eye Hospital where he specializes in cancer surgery of the eyelid and tear-duct. He is first author of the chapter on cutaneous melanoma management in the foremost textbook of dermatology, “Fitzpatrick’s Dermatology in General Medicine,” co-written with melanoma experts from the University of Michigan and Harvard University. Dr. Bailey has a PhD in skin cancer genetics and worked with researchers from Stanford University to identify why certain genetic changes lead to skin cancer. He now studies the use of new chemotherapy medicines to shrink tumors prior to surgery in select patients.
In addition to his cancer work, Dr. Bailey performs a wide range of laser and cosmetics procedures, utilizing his surgical experience to improve outcomes and safety. He is part of a network of physicians performing laser surgery to trauma and burn scars to restore function and appearance. He has an extensive assortment of lasers and devices to treat virtually any skin condition from unwanted fat, excess hair in all skin types, tattoos, birth marks in children and adults, surgical and burn scars, acne scars, and signs of aging on the face and body.
Dr. Bailey was voted to B-Metro Magazine’s list of “Top Dermatologists” in 2015 and 2016, and he is the immediate past president of the Alabama Dermatology Society. He has offices in Birmingham, Montgomery, Trussville and the Callahan Eye Hospital.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. His hobbies include gardening and cooking.

About Jennifer Samson, CRNP
JENNIFER SAMSON, CRNP, grew up in Spanish Fort, Alabama. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at the University of South Alabama and worked as a Registered Nurse in cardiology before earning her Masters of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Jennifer has comprehensive training in the field of dermatology, including extensive training and mentorship under Dr. Bailey in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin. She performs comprehensive skin exams, biopsies, cryotherapy, chemotherapy wraps, UNA-Boot applications, as well as other procedures, and she works with Dr. Bailey to build strong, trusted relationships with patients and provide a plan of care to best manage their skin condition. She also assists Dr. Bailey in skin cancer and reconstruction surgeries.
Jennifer and her husband Vince currently reside in McCalla, Alabama. She enjoys traveling, running, and Crossfit.

About Abby Melton, MSHS, PA-C
ABBY MELTON, MSHS, PA-C, grew up in Dothan, Alabama. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University. She then moved to New York City to complete her Surgical Physician Assistant degree and obtained a master’s degree in Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medical College. After graduate school, Abby practiced as a Dermatology PA in Long Island, NY before joining the Plastic and Reconstructive department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. Abby relocated to Birmingham where she continued her reconstructive plastic surgery career at UAB Hospital, caring for burn and trauma patients.
Abby is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She co-authored the research study: “Generation of Dermal Tissue in Full Thickness Burn Wounds with the Use of Fetal Bovine Acellular Dermal Matrix” with the publication pending. Abby has extensive training with a wide range of reconstructive surgeries including burn, trauma, breast, and head/neck reconstruction. Her practice includes all aspects from clinical dermatology to laser procedures. She currently assists Dr. Bailey in reconstructive surgery and Mohs surgery.
Abby, her husband, and their two young children reside in Birmingham. She enjoys painting, spending time with her family at the lake, and traveling.
